Baltimore took the lead for good in the bottom of the 3rd inning scoring 2 runners on 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Casper Wells who excited the crowd when he delivered a base-hit scoring two baserunners. Baltimore had 16 hits for the night. Lackey(7-18) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. Chad Billingsley(12-11) was given the loss. He gave up 6 runs in 4 innings of work. Baltimore now has a record of 31-105. The loss by Atlanta interrupted a nice 8-2 recent run. TORONTO AT SEA ISLE Argonauts....... 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 - 1 5 1 Seagulls........ 0 0 0 2 0 1 2 0 - 5 11 2 Win:Hamels(10-11) Loss:Duensing(4-2) Homeruns- J.Heyward(6th), C.McGehee(18th) Cole Hamels retired 10 batters on strikeouts as the Sea Isle Seagulls outscored the Toronto Argonauts 5 to 1. Hamels(10-11) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Toronto hitters. He allowed only 5 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Sea Isle banged out 11 hits on the night. Brian Duensing(4-2) took the loss. He was touched for 11 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Hamels - except Toronto. Cito Gaston lamented, 'He just was 'on' tonight. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were the visitors!' Colorado came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 3 runs on 3 base hits. Miguel Olivo led off and got things going when he doubled. After an out was recorded, Chris Young stepped up to the plate and he stroked a base-hit. Jayson Werth was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim. Dunn followed and he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run. Colorado totaled 10 hits on the night. Barry Zito(10-9) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 2/3 innings and allowing 2 runs. Carlos Marmol earned the save, his 24th. The loss was charged to Justin Verlander(13-10). Despite taking the loss, he whiffed 13 batters in 8 and 1/3 innings. Daisuke Matsuzaka(2-1) pitched a fine game. He went 8 innings allowing 9 hits and 4 walks. Cincinnati had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Matsuzaka was helped out by Bobby Jenks who recorded his 11th save. The losing pitcher was Randy Wolf(2-13). He surrendered 5 hits and 2 walks in 1 and 2/3 innings. Oakland, who had been struggling lately, moved their record to 38-98. They are now 2-8 in their last ten games. With the loss Cincinnati now has a record of 35-101, worst in the division.

Wall St jumped on top of Washington in the 3rd inning plating an isolated run on 2 hits. That early run support was all that Tim Hudson(18-8) required. For the game Wall St out-hit Washington 11 to 3. Chris Perez gained credit for his 23rd save. Mark Buehrle(7-16) was the loser. He gave up 6 hits and 1 walk in 5 and 1/3 innings. Adrian Gonzalez stepped into the batter's box and he lined a one-base hit. Delmon Young then doubled. Wilson Betemit came up and he would ground out. Alex Rios came up to bat and hit a sacrifice fly. Boston ended up with 16 hits for the game while Minnesota had 9. The win was credited to Matt Garza(10-11) who went 5 innings allowing 5 runs. Craig Breslow preserved the game for Garza, recording his his 6th. Brian Matusz(1-1) suffered the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 8 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Detroit came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 2 base hits. Crisp kicked off the action when he tripled. Victor Martinez came next and he was walked intentionally. Luke Scott then launched a three-run homer giving Detroit the victory and sending the 39,698 home-town fans home happy. Detroit had 11 hits for the night while Philadelphia had 8. The win went to Daniel Bard(3-1) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Hong-Chih Kuo(2-3) was charged with the loss in relief.
